Staff Team
Laura's focus is the day to day operations inside the organiztion. She is the go-to person for developing new projects with JCCI’s community partners.
Outside of JCCI, Laura enjoys volunteering; joining the Jacksonville Coalition for Equality, serving a one-year term on the Museum of Science and History Board of Trustees, as well as the Haven Hospice Community Advisory Board, and volunteering with Advocates for a Better Jacksonville. She also teaches two yoga classes each week. She loved school so much that she earned three degrees in English; the last one is a D.A. from University at Albany, SUNY.
What is your favorite hidden gem in Jacksonville? The Jacksonville Area Sexual Minority Youth Network (JASMYN) is Florida’s strongest youth organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth ages 13-23. It has been providing safe space for all youth since 1994. I think of it as Northeast Florida’s leader for building youth leadership and programs that are truly youth-centric. People don’t generally assume that an organization will thrive in Jacksonville if it is committed to human rights, especially the rights of youth, regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity. JASMYN has produced some of our city’s finest and continues to fight for social justice.

Steve’s primary area of focus is coordinating JCCI’s implementation projects with an eye toward enacting positive change in the community. In this role, he serves as the organization’s interface with the hundreds of volunteers who comprise the implementation task forces. He also directs a variety of special projects for JCCI and its Community Works consulting division. Steve’s executive experience in strategic planning and volunteer management over 22 years at the PGA Tour groomed him for the hats he now wears at JCCI. Steve previously worked for two NFL franchises and in professional soccer during its fledgling years in the USA. Steve is currently Vice Chair of the Board of North Florida Clean Cities Coalition, and he has previously served on the Boards of the Florida Theatre and American Red Cross Northeast Florida. Born and raised in Springfield, OH, Steve received a B.A. degree in political science from Northwestern University and a Master’s from Ohio University. He and his wife Amy have two grown children and live in nearby St. Augustine.
Fun fact you wouldn’t know about Steve: He served as a communications intern with the Chicago Bears in 1975, the rookie season of all-time great Walter Payton. Walter, a first-round draft choice who was deathly shy and apprehensive of the big-city media, often leaned on Steve to manage his daily obligations with writers and broadcasters.
Favorite hidden gem in Jacksonville? Green Erth Bistro in San Marco on Hendricks Avenue. Most people, even those who live and work in the area, drive past it regularly without even knowing it exists. Excellent authentic Persian cuisine, and it’s owned and operated by some of the nicest people in town.
Contact Steve if you need: information about JCCI implementation projects, both past and present, and how they leave a lasting imprint on Northeast Florida.
